The Original G-man of Hip-Hop Today’s rap artists need to take a seat for class is in session with The Original G-Man of Hip Hop as the professor. I thought I knew what Hip Hop was all about, that is before I crossed paths with one of the original Hype Men of Hip Hop. G-Man was a contributing cultivator, one of the foremen, one of the creators of the Hip Hop culture. In order to understand Hip Hop you will have to be educated on how the culture started and what it mean. G-Man was born and raised in New York, New York which is home to Hip Hop. Back in the 1970s the inner city kids of the Bronx, Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens, New York would come together to create rhymes to Emcee over beats that echoed from the amps that were set up on stoops and at storefronts. He broke down the term Hip Hop, in which he explained that in the early 1970s the word “Hip” meant popular, cool, or being with the “in” crowd. Back in the 70s era the “Hip” kids would travel to different areas to go to meetings and perform at shows. The “Hip” kids didn’t have the means of transportation to get around, so they usually travel by train. In order to get on trains you have to pay a token at the turnstiles, and since money and tokens were limited the “Hip” kids would “Hop” over the turnstiles to get on the trains to go show off their Emceeing capabilities. It was then the Hip Hop culture came to life and change music forever. G-Man was one of the original hype men in which he rocked the crowds for Hip Hop Artists Rob Base and the late DJ EZ Rock. G-Mann was known for energizing the crowds before the main artists come on the stage. Being one of the inner city kids going to meetings better known as cyphers, Hip Hop was built on the foundation of these three principles: Knowledge, Wisdom, and Understanding. Today as we look at The BET Awards they have a segment called The Cypher. G-Man stated “Cypher is not being in a room passing around a microphone rapping. Cypher is where all artists in Hip Hop come together and hold a meeting with the intent to uplift and build up communities . Hip Hop is not rapping, rapping is just a way to talk garbage. In Hip Hop you are an Emcee not a rapper. Emcee bring substance, rapping brings abuse” In 1976 G-Man who also went by the stage name MC Friction, was signed to Joey Robinson Jr, CEO of Sugar Hill Gang Empire. G-Man was not only known for igniting life to a crowd, he was also a bodyguard for Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock, several dignitaries, A-List celebrities, and much more. He made it known that he don’t like bullies and it is in his nature to protect others. G-Man was trained by the Navy, Army, Marines, and Air force so that he would fully possess full capabilities to dismantle any jeopardous situation that may arise when protecting another human life. As Hip Hop music changed into the substance that brought on violence, abuse of women, the sale and abuse of narcotics, G-Man decided to be a full-time bodyguard. Now G-Man is back on the scene to save Hip Hop from these rap artists that make songs with lyrics that spew out violence. G-Man made a statement and I 100% agree with him, “These rappers that make songs talking about how many women they slept with, how much money they made off selling drugs, how many people they killed say they don’t like snitches, but they snitch on themselves through their music. How can you trust a self-snitch?”. He came back to place the Knowledge, Wisdom, and Understanding back into music. He want to use the growing power and wide-spread of Hip Hop to bring back its sole purpose, which is to reach, teach, and uplift communities. G-Man re-emerge with three hit singles that personified the entity of the original Hip Hop culture. “B Where U R” was made in tribute to the late Michael Jackson. “Tuff Luv” spoke of the effect of parents not parenting their kids. “Who Dat Got Yo Bak” is an eye-opener for those to think they know who is for them. G-Man currently helping develop young MCs get rooted in true Hip Hop. Basically Hip Hop music is suppose to convey positive energy and bring forth unity. Hip Hop was a way for inner city kids to cope with life in the projects. Like so many genres of music that was created by people that lived in poverty, Hip Hop was created to celebrate life not destroy it. G-Man definitely taught me a lot and I am forever grateful for his contribution in creating a culture that has spread world-wide. Check out his interview on The Man Show Live. Hal Anthony, reggae artist, rhythm guitarist and vocalist of The Millennium Band. Born in the parish of Clarendon in Jamaica, and grew up in Kingston. As a teenager, he attended St. Andrew Technical High School and later transferred to Kingston Tech. At a very young age he had the pleasure of spending numerous hours in the company of various reggae and musical icons learning and growing. He developed a burning desire to become not only a reggae artist himself, but also a musician. His passion for the music was alive and burning even while attending high school when he joined the reggae vocal group, Beltones. Beltones became a popular group who went on to have a #1 hit song, “No More Heartaches”. They then changed the name of the group to “The Fantells” and went on have another hit song, “Hooligan”. For a short period of time, after graduating high school, Hal attended UWI to study a Supervisory Managerial Course under the tutelage of the late Rex Nettleford but continued to sing with the Fantells for a few years. After leaving the Fantells, he went on to join one of Jamaica’s most versatile bands, Fab 5, and for 17 years he sang and played music with Fab 5 and now credits the band in helping to mold and shape his career – not only as a musician, but also as an artist and performer. Hal was also influenced by some great musical icons like Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, Neil Diamond, his uncle Norris Weir (leader of the 60s group “The Jamaicans” with hit festival song “Ba Ba Boom Time” and other popular songs like “Things You Say You Love” and “Take Warning”), now a minister and popular gospel artist; his cousin Jimmy Cliff (actor and reggae artist from the “Harder They Come” fame). Hal is also cousin to popular Jamaican folk singer Olive Lewin; cousin to keyboard player Selwyn Brown of Steele Pulse band; and cousin to keyboard player Kewin Brown of The Millennium Band.
In 1989 Hal came to the United States and settled in S. Florida. It was not too long after that he started singing as a solo artist under the name “Alibaba”. He relocated temporarily to join his cousins in Maryland who were getting ready to form a new band (“Inner Force”) and needed a rhythm guitarist. This became a 2 ½ years relocation with the band touring with Al Brown throughout the United States. At the end of the tour, he returned to S. Florida with a yearning to form his own band. In 1998, after linking up with several musicians in S. Florida, the band “Real Rock” was formed. However, in keeping time with the turn of the century, the band members decided to change the name of the band to “The Millennium Band”. They’ve had rave reviews over the years and was dubbed several times by the Miami New Times as S. Florida’s #1 band. Over the years they have toured with and/or backed many top reggae artists, including but not limited to, Freddie McGregor, Ken Boothe, Marcia Griffiths, Glen Washington, Sanchez, Sean Paul, Ky-mani Marley, Anthony Cruz, Jose Wailers, Taurus Riley, Elephant Man, Anthony B., Big Youth, Lady Saw, John Holt, Bob Andy, Admiral Bailey, George Nooks, Leroy Sibbles, Luciano, Rita Marley, Pat Kelly and many others in the U.S., Japan, Europe, S. America and the Caribbean.
In 2009 Hal stepped out of the box and released his debut album “Reggae Man Ah Com”. He followed that up in 2010 with “Illuminations (Oh! Jah!).” Both albums are getting rave reviews. Hal Anthony & The Millennium Band just finished their first tour in Gridwood, Alaska. Alaskans thoroughly enjoyed the their brand of Cultural Roots Reggae music. Hal is now back in the studio with The Millennium Band and the melodious harmony singers, (“S.O.S. Sisters) working on a third album. Hal has that inborn passion to sing and perform and is rearing and ready to take cultural reggae music throughout the U.S. and around the world.

Justin Price started his photography career at Towson University in Baltimore, MD. when he was a sophomore in 1996. While in college he started photographing his girlfriend and found out he had a real love of creating images. Shooting with his first camera a Canon rebel Justin discovered he wanted to express his artistic side that he had a real passion for the art of photography. At Towson University Justin enrolled in photography I and II in his sophomore year and it was then that he completely fell in love with creating still images. Shooting black and white and developing his own film and prints was so much fun and a great creative outlet. Justin also started working jobs at a few photo labs so he could really learn then whole process of developing film and printing photos. Justin started shooting a wide variety of subjects, everything from landscapes to his cats, to people, and even on the more artistic side-abstract compositions. Photographing models eventually became his main interest, and he began experimenting with different lighting techniques as well as the best ways to compose a photo to help develop his unique and distinctive style. Around the same time he started shooting models Justin decided to try his hand at wedding photography as well. He became determined to make a living out of photography and started working for one wedding studio that taught him the basics of wedding photography but the company was not very reputable and did not treat their customers right so Justin decided to move on. Justin went and worked for several other wedding studios learning the in’s and out’s and art of shooting weddings and this also helped Justin refine his skills as a photographer. In 1999 Justin started his own wedding studio Priceless Images Photography. Justin continued working for other wedding companies as well, learning as much as he could from each photographer and taking the best of what he learned regarding photography techniques, customer service and other business skills useful in helping propel the success of Priceless Images Photography. In 2005 Justin moved down to south florida in Ft. Lauderdale to expand his business. Living back and forth between Baltimore and south florida, he eventually began traveling all over the U.S. shooting in different cities. Over the next couple of years Justin saw himself improving rapidly when it came to wedding photography and photographing models. Justin started winning awards, getting published in major magazines, and having articles written about him. Now that he has developed his own signature style of photography Justin has a vast list of clients that include supermodel Joanna Krupa, hip-hop artist Rick Ross and some of the industries top models. To this day Justin is constantly trying to improve his skills and techniques believing that there is always room to grow and get better and that the art of photography is always an evolving journey.
Judy was born on the beautiful paradise island of Jamaica and there developed a passion for designing and creating beautiful things from the age of five. By age nine she designed and constructed her own personal fashion couture.
Numerous newspaper articles in many prestigious papers, of Southern Florida celebrate her cutting edge designs. Her splash and sense of style has been recognized in a series of local awards regarding her as one of Miami’s top designers.
Several of her fashions have been featured by some of the world’s most beautiful women on programs such as America’s Next Top Model. The 2009 Miss Jamaica rose to victory wearing some of Judy’s signature designs. Her work begins to be recognized internationally…… with couture for every mood and occasion…….
I define my personal style as kind of different, my gowns are made with lots of fabrics, with long mermaid and fish tails. I try to emulate the 40’s and the 50’s with my gowns. Working with beautiful material gives me the inspiration to design that one of a kind piece.
Fashion means a lot to me, fashion is my passion and all my life as a child growing up, my dream was to become a fashion designer, I was always drawing Barbie Doll figures in pretty dresses and making scrap books by taking fashion pictures from Vogue and fashion newspapers. Part of my life is fashion; I live it and make it.
It doesn’t take me long to design and make a piece; I can make a wedding or ball room gown in one day if I sew all day. My reward after the design is done, is to see how it looks all together on one of my models.
My accomplishments as a designer is seeing my work on the runway, on the models and seeing how well it fits them. I have done so many fashion shows for so many good causes such as “Feeding The Kids”, Breast Cancer, Heart Disease, and certain scholarship funds for the under privileged. I also attained a BBA in fashion design and marketing while working full time as well.
One of my favorite designers is Vera Wang because we share the same vision. We both design wedding gowns and pride ourselves on our design, hard work and dedication to our craft. My other designer is COCO Channel; I admire her for becoming one of the most famous designers. Her legend still lives on, I love her hats.
Depending on what I am designing, when I do have a customer that comes to me for a design, they will tell me what they want and I sketch the designs. Most of the time when I am making a new design, I would make the pattern or i would drape over them and make it.
My advice for an aspiring designer is to follow your dreams and work hard and don’t give up because it is not so easy for all of us in this field and don’t let any one discourage you.

It’s an unlikely road she took from tomboy to one of Metro Washington, DC’s most fashionably dressed women, but Kara Allan has made the journey. A young girl who loved building forts and climbing trees, the “Fabulous Fashionista” is now a Style and Image Expert of LifeStyle by Kara Allan, her busy, 14 year-old image consulting business based in Fairfax, Virginia. The company specializes in style, beauty, and interiors. At twelve, Kara decided that she didn’t want her mother to dress her anymore and she became interested in trying on various looks, experimenting with makeup and saw how the transformation enabled her to be herself, but a little more glamorous. As a teenager, jobs at the local mall helped her focus on her emerging passion…. fashion. While working at stores like Express, Petite Sophisticate and Ann Taylor, she tuned into and translated trends in fashion and style to “help people represent themselves, and not just push clothes on them.” While working on her marketing degree, she helped fellow classmate’s select job- hunting outfits to prepare for professional interviews.

Tony Saunders’ life story could be the script to a hit movie. Son of legendary keyboardist and composer Merl Saunders, Tony’s life has been a musical adventure. As a child he was taught piano by Herbie Hancock, and for his tenth birthday he received an electric organ as a gift from Sly Stone. Growing up around his dad and the Fantasy Records family of artists he was constantly surrounded by music royalty, including famed record and film executive Saul Zaentz. His passion for the bass guitar began while sitting in on recording sessions with musicians Anthony Davis, who played with Walter Hawkins, and Lee Miles of Miles Davis fame. “I got to see them both in the studio on a project my dad produced. These guys had a feel that drew me to the bass. That’s all I wanted after seeing them play.”
Tony graduated from the prestigious Conservatory of Music in San Francisco as a piano player, but soon after began honing his skills on the bass. He was influenced by the sounds of James Jamerson, Stanley Clark, Jack Cassidy, and others. Tom Fogarty of Creedence Clearwater Revival gave Tony his first bass guitar. Chuck Rainey and John Kahn took an interest in Tony, giving him bass lessons and a legacy to live up to. By the time he was 17 he played his first gig with Jerry Garcia and his dad in the Merl Saunders/Jerry Garcia Band.
Tony’s musical journey has continued on from that era through today. He has played and recorded with an astounding list of great musical talents, including Eric Clapton, David Crosby, Joe Sample, Chaka Khan, Ringo Starr, Bo Diddley, The Hawkins Family, and many others. “This just touches the edge of who I have been blessed to play with,” says Saunders. Artists such as Ike and Tina Tuner, Fats Domino, Peg Leg, Archie Bell and the Drells, The Gap Band, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knights and the Pips, the Miracles, James Brown, Joe Frazier, Muhammad Ali, and many, many more.

Spec…what was once a childhood nickname for an adorable young kid has turned into a lifelong identity for one of the music industry’s most quiet success stories to date. Columbus, Georgia’s own Lloyd ‘Spec’ Turner, known by all as Spec, with determination and raw talent has disseminated the recording industry as the secret weapon of some of the most iconic artists to hit the airwaves. His rise during R&B’s golden years of New Jack Swing was preceded by his mentoring of music’s then wonder-boy Dallas Austin. That mentorship would inspire a migration to Atlanta and a musical movement that would result in a collaboration with industry giant Gene Griffin. This union acted as a continuation to Griffin’s legacy which included Guy, Today and Wrecks in Effect; all mega-success stories garnering Griffin revenues upwards of over 50 million records collectively. Soon after, Spec was composing the material for his first album as founding member of R&B group, Basic Black for the Motown imprint. Spec’s musical gift was validated by the 500,000 plus sales of that first release making Basic Black’s album Gold Certified. Subsequently, he stayed true to his passion and lifelong commitment to music and became staff producer for D.A.R.P (Dallas Austin Recording Projects). From there, Spec produced songs for Whitney Houston, Snoop Dogg, and Jermaine Dupri/So So Def while working alongside the likes of the great Missy Elliott. Some of his best work was featured on Whitney Houston’s album, My Love Is Your Love, Basic Black’s inaugural release entitled ‘Basic Black’ and the So So Def All Star compilation.
Presently, Spec resides in the outskirts of Atlanta, Ga and has become a part of Atlanta’s musical fabric. Currently working his Kardiffgiant project and preparing for its Winter 2016 release, Spec has maintained his status as one of the quietest musical treasures of the Atlanta’s music scene.
Turner, a Grammy-nominated producer has piqued the interest of quite a few entrepreneurs needing an influencer to validate their product lines. 2016 finds Spec Brand Ambassador for a new independent vodka entitled Preve Vodka, Brand Influencer for a new headphone brand, Edifier, and he uses his marketing tool F.O.R.B.E Radio, his own radio show which salutes the best in R&B with an acronym spelling out the Future of R&B Entertainment.
