Sofija received a full tuition scholarship at the age of 16 to study at the University for Music and Performing Arts in Graz, Austria, where she graduated in 2011.

Sofija moved to New York in 2011 and has been frequently performing at local venues –Carnegie Hall, Birdland, Smalls, The 55 Bar, Somethin’ Jazz Club, Metropolitan Room and Dizzy’s Coca Cola Club.

She has also become an in demand voice professor and is currently teaching at the Music School of New York City.

Sofija placed 1st in Elle Magazine’s 30 under 30.(30 most successful people under 30 years of age) She also came in 3rd on Cosmopolitan Magazine’s list of the most beautiful women in 2013.

Sofija is included in the newly published Jazz Encyclopedia “Serbian jazz, Bre”.

Sofija is the editor-in-chief of the English edition of Jazzin’ Magazine since 2011.

She is also currently writing two books of her own, one about vocal technique, the other on her jazz arrangements of Balkan folk music.

Sofija is an ambassador of CYE – Celiac Youth of Europe, Estee Lauder and their Breast Awareness Campaign, as well as being an Amazon Aid Foundation Artist together with a small selection of musicians, including Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter.

Sofija has held and performed at many humanitarian events, including organizing a benefit concert to help the Sandy Hook victims in 2013, Balkan Floods Benefit, Pozega

Hospital Incubators Benefit and four Benefits for children heart surgeries etc.

She has composed and arranged the music for numerous movies and plays, including the documentary about her life “Sofijazz”, the movie “Love Comes After”, that won an award for the best foreign drama of 2014 at the Hollywood Film Festival, the movie “Our Guardians” by Igor Simic that was featured at the Cannes Film Festival in 2015, andmusic for “Theater 13”, as well as being an artistic director for “Island DreamsEntertainment”.

In 2013, Sofija was featured in the movie “Balkan Spirit”, together with Marina Abramovic and Angelina Jolie.

Sofija has won many awards and scholarships for her outstanding musical abilities, including the Marianne Mendt Jazz Award, Tesla Award for achievements in Music, UNESCO Scholarship for young talents, Golden Mermaid award, World Song Contest Finals and was recently chosen in 2013 for the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead program which identifies outstanding, emerging jazz artists and composers.

Sofija has worked with many great jazz artists such as David Murray, Jason Moran,Sheila Jordan, Jay Clayton, Barry Harris, Barre Phillips, John Abercrombie, Marcus Miller, Fred Hersch, Jeff Ballard, Ambrose Akinmusire, Bob Brookmeyer, Terence.
